Cyclone Studios' Uprising enters the real-time strategy fray with one tremendous asset: It's different. Played from a first-person perspective, this frenetic game is unlike anything else in its genre. After all, how many strategy games have a strafe key? Uprising takes all the key ingredients of a Command & Conquer or Total Annihilation (command of cool units, resource management, fast action) and challenges you to master them all while driving around the battlefield in a super-powered tank known as the Wraith. So now, instead of deploying your forces from a god-like overview, you must tread your way over to a strategic spot and "port" in troops for an assault. The resulting action is incredibly exciting and immersive. You're right there in the thick of it, with your tanks and troops swarming over the hills and your fighters arriving to provide air cover. This brand of gameplay is surprisingly fresh and addictive. I loved the cinematic feel of the battles and the thrill of calling in an overwhelming force to crush my pathetic opponents. Oni, Great PC Game Oni, Jappanese for "Demon", is a third person action game from Bungie and Gathering of Developers. It takes inspiration from Jappanese animation ("Anime") for much of its artistic direction and storyline. Oni places you in the role of Konoko, a gifted member of an elite police force in the year 2032. Most of the world is under the control of the World Coalition Government, and the wilderness outside of the megacities is an uninhabitable wasteland. It's clear that Konoko is unlike others around her --she is gifted with incredible strength, agility, and skill. Yet her past is a mystery, but her origins and her story unfold in the course of the game as she battles the Syndicate, a powerful underground crime organization that's making a power play in a big way. The game is heavily based on combat and exploration. In the realm of combat, Konoko relies on two forms of attacks to defeat her enemies: high tech armaments and martial arts. The game's hand-to-hand combat system is very advanced and fluid, allowing you to punch, kick, and throw your enemies all over the place. Konoko learns more advanced moves as you progress through the game, with more powerful moves requiring progressively more difficult (but also more rewarding) combinations of keys/buttons and movements. The game was developed by Bungie and published by Gathering of Developers. It is available on PC, Macintosh, and the Playstation 2. My take on it: this game was way ahead of things when it came out and it is still a great game to this day. The ONLY downside is it works on *save points* or *save locations*. But the game is great.
